Moving forward, governments may work together to ensure that the new non-traditional arrangements coexist with, rather than bypass, the transparent rules-based mechanisms that have underpinned regional growth. Prioritizing the harmonization of fragmented trade rules will remain essential to reduce the compliance burden associated with the growing number of agreements. At the same time, strong emphasis may be placed on ensuring smaller less developed economies, including graduating LDCs, can participate in regional and global trade initiatives, in support of inclusive and sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific.
