We describe the research dataset “Microdatabase Direct Investment”, using a structured metadata schema.1 This document consists of four sections. We describe the general properties of the dataset as a whole, such as its scope and coverage and the methods of data collection and data appraisal. We then take a look at the variable level, providing a variable overview table as well as variable detail tables for each variable. The last section looks at the value level and provides codelists, i.e. information on the meaning of values for categorical variables. The Appendix contains relevant reporting forms.
