This report shows how taking a gender-responsive approach to procurement that centers on buying from women-owned businesses can mainstream gender into trade to build more sustainable markets for women entrepreneurs in Asia and the Pacific.
Produced with UN Women, it explains how women-owned businesses were hit disproportionately hard by COVID-19 and describes the inadequate focus on supplier diversity and lack of investment in gender-responsive value chains. It shows how raising awareness of gender-responsive procurement, building databases of women-owned businesses, and specifying provisions in procurement legislation can help bolster women entrepreneurs and ensure an inclusive recovery.
