Asia-Pacific sustainable development journal. Vol. 31, No. 2, November 2024
UNESCAP
2024.12.06
The Asia-Pacific Sustainable Development Journal (APSDJ) is a high-quality, policy-oriented Journal that provides a platform for academic researchers and policymakers to interact. The current issue (Vol. 31, No. 2, Nov. 2024) contains a thematic section, “Structural transformation of least developed countries: recent developments and new challenges.” The six papers included in the thematic section provide valuable insights into the complex issues surrounding least developed countries (LDCs), their structural challenges and potential pathways for sustainable development. Together, they provide a deeper understanding of LDCs dynamics, particularly the Asia-Pacific LDCs.

This issue begins with a survey paper entitled “Asia-Pacific least developed countries: sustainable development challenges, emerging trends and opportunities.” It argues for a comprehensive approach to development to address traditional and emerging challenges.

The survey paper and six special theme papers cover key issues facing LDCs, such as structural transformation, trade resilience and climate adaptation; thus, align with the priorities of the Doha Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries for the Decade 2022?2031 (Doha Programme of Action). Hence, they could contribute valuable perspectives to policy discussions for Asia-Pacific LDCs. The insights presented in this volume may potentially inform the upcoming regional consultations on the Doha Programme of Action, which ESCAP is organizing in Phnom Penh on 4-5 December 2024.
