- Misleading green claims -
With growing consumer interest in environmentally friendly products and an increasing number of goods and services with environmental claims, concerns about "greenwashing" ? false or misleading environmental claims ? have increased in recent years. This policy paper outlines the prevalence and harms from false, misleading, or unsubstantiated environmental claims. It provides examples of greenwashing practices and related enforcement actions, and highlights policy measures implemented in OECD Member countries and partner economies to address the issue. The paper shows that addressing greenwashing has been a priority for many consumer protection authorities worldwide, including through enhanced global collaboration. It forms part of OECD‘s broader workstream on protecting and empowering consumers in the green transition.
