Inbound foreign direct investment (FDI) pledged to Korea amounted to US $5.63 billion in the first quarter of 2023, rising 3.4 percent year-on-year to reach the highest first-quarter result ever.
By region, FDI pledges from the EU (including the UK) rose 257.9 percent year-on-year to US $2.08 billion and China’s investment increased 100.4 percent to US $0.24 billion. Investment pledged from the US fell 13.9 percent to US $0.75 billion and investment from Japan decreased 38.1 percent to US $0.30 billion.
By industry, inbound FDI in manufacturing amounted to US $1.54 billion, down 6.2 percent yearon-year and investment in services rose 4.8 percent to US $3.95 billion.
