The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF), Incheon Metropolitan City, and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) held a ceremony on November 14 to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the GCF Secretariat in Incheon.
The decision to establish the GCF was taken at the 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change held in 2010. The GCF opened its headquarters in Incheon in December 2013 to support greenhouse gas reduction and climate adaptation efforts in developing countries.
Deputy Prime Minister Choo Kyung-ho, in his opening remarks, stressed the significance of the GCF’s role amid the accelerating climate crisis. He reiterated Korea’s commitment to fulfilling its US $300 million contribution plan announced in September, serving as a ‘green ladder’ to assist nations vulnerable to climate change.
In the following panel discussion under the theme of the GCF’s achievements over the past 10 years and its future vision, the Director of the Development Finance Bureau at the MOEF and Director-General of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) discussed tasks ahead and strategies to enhance partnerships.
