That’s how long it took for major online services to reach one million users.

#2. One platform took just five days to hit the one million mark, making an explosive debut online.

#3. It’s ChatGPT.

#4. ChatGPT is an AI-powered chatbot based on a large language model, or LLM.

#5. Large language models use vast amounts of data to learn independently. They find patterns in order to generate text, translate content, and answer questions, becoming an AI technology that can undertake many kinds of tasks.

#6. ChatGPT is different from conventional AI solutions.

#7. While existing AI chatbots could only give limited responses within preprogrammed rules, ChatGPT converses naturally, learning from an enormous amount of data―an estimated 300 billion words―taken from news, books, and social media.

#8. This isn’t the first time AI has made big waves.

#9. AlphaGo’s historic win over Go grandmaster Lee Sedol made headlines in 2016; and in 2020, the AI coding model GPT-3 was released, which was well-known among programmers.

#16. In addition to text, it can understand and process diverse forms of data, such as photos and pictures.

#17. If you share a photo of ingredients, ChatGPT will generate recipes you can make with just those items.

#18. As a multimodal model that’s receptive to visual, auditory, and sensory input, ChatGPT will be capable of many more tasks.
