#1. November 2021 in Korea: No lettuce in burgers.
#2. May 2022: French fries also disappeared.
#3. What happened to the hamburger?
#4. The climate crisis and logistical disruptions (caused by geopolitical instability) have brought global food security to a critical juncture.
#5. To solve the food security crisis, countries around the world are turning to AgTech.
#6. AgTech is a portmanteau of "agriculture" and "technology," referring to the industry in which cutting-edge technology,
#7. such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and robotics, is applied to the entire production process, from sowing to distribution.
#8. In other words, AgTech brings together traditional agriculture and new advanced technologies to increase productivity and stabilize distribution of agricultural products.
#9. AgTech has even transformed the fundamental nature of agriculture, which had previously been considered unchangeable.
#10. Using nutrient-dense water, IT panels, and LED lighting, farming is now possible even when there is no soil and sunlight.
#11. Automation systems and self-driving robots can be used to grow crops without human intervention.
#12. In one example, eco-friendly farming applied IT solutions to save water usage by 95 percent.
#13. That‘s not to say AgTech comes with only benefits. There are also voices of concern.
#14. Critics claim that the initial costs of installing cultivation facilities, including equipment and sensors, are excessive.
#15. Also up to 40 percent of production costs need to be allocated to the energy to maintain a suitable greenhouse environment, leading some people to believe the process is actually harmful to the environment.
#16. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO) predicts that the world population will rapidly increase to 9.7 billion by the year 2050.
#17. To meet the growing demand for food, analysts suggest that food production must expand by roughly 60 percent, compared to 2010 levels.
#18. To stabilize production volume and food security, the use of AgTech now appears to be inevitable.
#19. Agriculture transformed by cutting-edge technology.
#20. New Innovations will continue to reshape the industry.
