This brief shows how tackling youth employment in Asia and the Pacific requires a transitions-based, multidimensional approach that better identifies the complex needs and experiences of young people to help improve their access to quality jobs.
The brief looks at the myriad factors that impact a young person’s employment potential and identifies good practices including addressing nonemployment barriers such as gender-based constraints and supporting recovery from job loss. Its recommendations include adopting a joined-up approach, individually tailoring employment support services, and setting up public-private partnerships to better involve young people in the labor market.
