Analyzing the development of Mongolia’s digital economy, this brief shows how experimental digital supply and use tables were used to measure the extent of digitalization from 2015-2019 and provide insights to support the country’s economic growth. Focusing on digitally enabling industries, it explains the digital economy made up 1.6% of Mongolia’s gross domestic product (GDP) for 2015-2019. A separate input-output based value flow methodology indicates it contributed around 1.9% of GDP for the period. It explains how tackling data gaps, reinforcing survey and administrative data, and boosting statistical capacity will help Mongolia design evidence-based strategies that use digitalization to drive diversification.
