As cross-border e-commerce rapidly reshapes trade in Asia and the Pacific, this brief shows how bridging the digital divide, tightening regional cooperation, and harmonizing standards can support MSMEs and help underpin broad-based inclusive growth. It explains that despite the region making up some two-thirds of global e-commerce sales, disparities remain widespread. One third of the population lacks connectivity and many MSMEs cannot fully participate in cross-border e-commerce. It recommends countries adopt a holistic approach that includes building enabling regulatory ecosytems, strengthening trade facilitation, and investing in digital skills and infrastructure to help them fully unlock the digital economy’s potential.
